Spent my Christmas eve with the aunts (my mother has 5 sisters, all but 2 single) eating ham and scalloped potatoes, opening gifts, and watching with a smile while they drank Manhattans and gossiped about family and friends.
Shining moments of awesome: I am finally old enough and pernicious enough that I got to make an actual point in conversation where my know it all aunt Joan conceded to me. *preens* And more importantly everyone got along and had lots of fun together.
Staggering moment of Awkward: Know it all aunt Joan asked me if I knew what a Wiccan was, then went on to tell us how she had one in her class once (she's a college professor - Russian studies or something like that?) and how the girl was depressed and obviously very very troubled in her life and confused... you know, cause she was Wiccan.
Then we came home and had our little present tradition of opening Christmas pajamas - my whole extended family on mom's side has this. It's the one night a year that i don't sleep naked :Op
Finally, slow but surely, it is beginning to feel like a holiday.
Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate it, Blessed late Yule to those of us who celebrate that and happy winter holiday of your choice to all the rest.
Blessed be, sweet dreams, sugar plums.
